No. The Akuru extension is a Chrome browser extension. You install it from the Chrome Web Store ([Akuru Browser Extension](https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/akuru-browser-extension/ilbjfeklgekcioamhenkpcfdemaemmhg)) and it runs alongside your EMR in the browser. There's nothing to install inside your EMR itself, and no plugin to add to Xestro. Once it's installed and pinned, it appears as a toolbar across the top of supported pages. ### Does it work with my EMR? Right now the extension works with **Xestro**, with the full feature set: pre-fill from the EMR, smart routing of outputs, the patient name-match safeguard, and appointment sync to i-consult. Support for more web-based EMRs is coming soon. If you're unsure about your EMR, ask Akuru support. See [Using the extension with Xestro](/browser-extension/using-the-extension-with-xestro). ### Do secretaries need to pre-populate i-scribe before a consult? No. You don't prep i-scribe at all. Whatever your secretary types into the patient's record in the EMR (past medical history, allergies, current medications, comments) is carried into i-scribe automatically when the clinician clicks **New Patient**. The richer the EMR record, the more context i-scribe receives. See [Start a consult in i-scribe straight from your EMR](/browser-extension/start-consult-from-emr). ### What's the difference between "Insert Output" and "Send to EMR"? They're two ways to get an i-scribe output into your EMR: - **Insert Outputs** is the dropdown on the Akuru top bar. You click inside the EMR field where you want the text first, then open Insert Outputs and pick the output. It puts the output wherever you clicked, and you can repeat it for each output. This is the reliable, everyday path. - **Send to EMR** is a button on each output card inside i-scribe. It smart-routes by type: medical notes go to the Xestro clinical notes, letters open the Xestro letter editor. If you're inserting more than one letter, use the **Insert Outputs** flow. See [Send outputs back to your EMR](/browser-extension/send-outputs-back-to-your-emr). ### Can I send several letters at once (batch send)? Not as a single batch action. Send them one at a time using the Insert Output flow: for each letter, create or open the destination field in the EMR, click inside it, then choose that letter from **Insert Outputs**. This is also the workaround for the known "I can only export one letter" issue. See ["I can only export one letter after the first couple of patients"](/browser-extension/can-only-insert-one-letter). ### Does the extension work offline? No. Both your EMR and i-scribe are live web applications running in the browser, and the extension's job is to move information between those two live tabs. You need to be online with both tabs open. ### Which browsers does it support? Google Chrome and other Chromium-based browsers, on desktop. That's the supported target. Microsoft Edge is not supported, and it isn't on the near-term roadmap. Some clinicians prefer Edge for Xestro's larger scrollbars, but the extension's official supported browser is Chrome, so please use Chrome for the extension. There's also no iOS, Safari, or mobile version; EMRs are desktop web apps and the extension is desktop-only. See [Install and set up the extension](/browser-extension/install-and-set-up-the-extension). ### Do i-scribe and my EMR need to be in the same window? Yes, this matters. i-scribe and your EMR must be open in the **same browser window, in separate tabs** (ideally a single Xestro tab), not in two separate windows. If they're in different windows, Insert can silently do nothing. If the top bar covers a button you need, remember the floating window is draggable, so drag it out of the way. See [The extension can't see my i-scribe or EMR tab](/browser-extension/extension-cant-see-my-tab). ### What happens if I click "Sync i-consult" but I'm not set up for i-consult? The **Sync i-consult** button is shown to everyone, including clinicians who aren't yet provisioned for i-consult. If you are an i-consult user, sync just works. If you aren't set up for i-consult, clicking it takes you to i-consult where you may not yet be able to log in, so don't be alarmed if it doesn't sync. Talk to your Akuru contact about enabling i-consult for your account. See [Sync your appointments to i-consult](/browser-extension/sync-appointments-to-i-consult). ### Is my patient data safe? Yes. The extension is built to do as little with patient data as possible. It moves data between your EMR tab and your i-scribe tab inside your own browser, does **not** send patient data to Akuru servers, doesn't keep a copy, and can only run on a short list of medical sites. See [Is my patient data safe? (security & privacy)](/browser-extension/extension-is-my-patient-data-safe) for the full detail. ``` ```callout kind="info" Can't find your question here?
