"No patient loaded" and patient name mismatch warnings
If the Akuru extension shows "No patient loaded" or an amber patient-name mismatch warning, here's exactly what each one means and how to clear it.
The Akuru toolbar shows you which patient it can see. When it can't see a patient, or the patient in your EMR doesn't match the one in i-scribe, it warns you and pauses transfers. This page explains the two warnings you'll meet most often and how to clear each one.
New to how the safety check works? Start with Patient safety: how name matching works, which explains the underlying check. This page is the quick "I'm seeing this warning, what now?" companion.
"No patient loaded"
This means the extension can't read a patient from your EMR yet, usually because no record is open, the record hasn't finished loading, or the extension can't see the EMR tab.
In your EMR, open the patient's record fully and give the page a moment to finish loading.
Check the patient name now shows in the Akuru toolbar.
If it still says no patient is loaded, confirm your EMR and i-scribe are in the same browser window (side by side). The extension can't bridge separate windows.
If the toolbar shows "Reconnecting…", refresh the EMR tab and the i-scribe tab, then reopen the patient.
If the toolbar still can't see a patient after a refresh, the problem is more likely that the extension can't see your EMR or i-scribe tab at all. See The extension can't see my i-scribe or EMR tab.
Patient name mismatch (amber bar + ⚠)
This means the extension can see a patient in both places, but the two names don't match. The toolbar turns amber, the name shows a ⚠, and a modal appears with both names and Cancel / Proceed Anyway.
Read both names in the modal: the EMR patient and the i-scribe patient.
If they are different people, click Cancel. Then load the correct patient (open the right record in the EMR, or click New Patient to bring the EMR patient into i-scribe).
If they are the same person under slightly different spellings (e.g. a middle name or a typo in one system), confirm the patient is correct yourself, then choose Proceed Anyway.
Proceed Anyway means you've checked. The match is a safeguard, not a guarantee. When you override it you are confirming the patient is correct. Never click through a mismatch you haven't verified.
Quick reference
The toolbar is green but says no patient. What now?
Open the patient's record in the EMR and let it finish loading. The toolbar reads the patient from the open record; if nothing is open, it has nothing to show.
The names look identical to me but I still get a mismatch.
Check for a hidden difference: a middle name in one system, a maiden vs married surname, or a stray space. If you've confirmed it's the same person, choose Proceed Anyway. If it keeps happening with genuinely matching names, capture the details and report it (see Getting help & reporting a problem).
Can I stop the warnings appearing?
No. The mismatch warning is a patient-safety safeguard and can't be disabled. The "No patient loaded" state just reflects that no record is open yet; open one and it clears.
