Send the history to your EMR
How to send the i-consult medical history to your EMR: set the Gentu Medical History Export method (PDF attachment or correspondence) or map Genie appointment types. History saves only if export is enabled.
The generated history always flows into your i-scribe transcript box. Saving it into your EMR as well, as a record on the patient's file, is a separate optional step you switch on in your integration settings.
The history saves to your EMR only if you've enabled export. If you've never configured this, the history still appears in i-scribe but won't be written to Gentu or Genie. If you expected a record in your EMR and don't see one, this setting is the first thing to check.
Before you start, make sure your EMR integration (Gentu or Genie) is connected. You configure export under Settings → Integrations, where you'll see a card for each connected EMR with a Details → link.
Gentu
In Gentu you choose how the history is written to the patient record.
Go to Settings → Integrations and open the Gentu card via Details →.
Under Appointment Types, add the appointment types that indicate a new patient to the New Patient tag field (these are the appointment types that indicate a new patient in Gentu).
Under Template Settings, set Medical History Export to one of:
- Disabled: nothing is written to Gentu (the history still appears in i-scribe).
- PDF Attachment: attaches the medical history as a PDF to the patient record in Gentu.
- Correspondence: creates an outgoing correspondence in Gentu.
If you chose Correspondence, pick a Letter Template from the picker.
Click Save Settings.
The setting is labelled Gentu in your integration settings.
Genie
For Genie, you map which appointment types should be treated as new-patient appointments.
Go to Settings → Integrations and open the Genie card via Details →.
Under Appointment Types, add your new-patient appointment types to the New Patient tag field. Genie appointment types sync from Genie, and suggestions are offered (sourced from the on-prem Genie agent). Pick from the suggestions or type a value.
Save your settings.
What you'll see
Once export is enabled, i-consult writes the history to the EMR for each completed episode and records a timestamp. After export there's a grace period during which you can still edit the history; once that window closes, the notes lock so the exported record stays stable.
Exporting the history doesn't end your clinical responsibility. The history is the patient's self-reported account. Review and confirm it, and make any corrections within the grace period, before relying on the exported record.
If it doesn't work
- The history didn't save to Gentu or Genie → see The history didn't save to Gentu / Genie. The most common cause is export being left Disabled; also check your appointment-type mapping and whether you're still inside the grace period.
- You're not sure where the history goes if export is off → it still appears in your i-scribe transcript box. See How i-consult fits your day.
