What is i-consult?

Understand what i-consult is in plain language — an AI pre-consultation questionnaire that lets patients complete their history before the appointment, so you walk in with a structured history already waiting in i-scribe.

i-consult is an AI-powered patient intake and pre-consultation tool. Before an appointment, your patient receives a secure link and completes an adaptive, specialty-specific questionnaire in their own time, typing or speaking their answers. The AI turns those answers into a structured clinical history, and that history is waiting for you in i-scribe by the time the patient walks in. That frees up the consultation for reasoning and deciding rather than gathering basic history.

The idea in one line

Patients do their history before the appointment. You walk in with it already structured in i-scribe.

How it works

1

An episode is created for an upcoming appointment, either automatically from your EMR or manually if you prefer.

2

i-consult sends the patient a secure SMS link a few days before their appointment.

3

The patient verifies their date of birth, then answers an adaptive questionnaire by typing or speaking, at their own pace. They can pause and resume from the same link.

4

The AI synthesises their answers into a structured clinical history (presenting complaint, history of presenting complaint, past medical history, medications, and more).

5

That history appears in your i-scribe transcript box, ready for you to review and build on during the consultation.

You usually do not have to open anything. Because the history flows into i-scribe automatically, most clinicians never open the i-consult dashboard at all. They just open i-scribe as they always do, and the history is already there.

What it does for you

  • A structured history on arrival. The presenting complaint, history of presenting complaint, past medical history and medications are organised the way you expect, before you enter the room.
  • More time for clinical reasoning. You re-ask less of what the referral already covered and spend less time on basic data gathering.
  • Specialty-specific depth. The questionnaire adapts to your specialty and to whether the appointment is a new consultation or a follow-up.
  • A better experience for patients. They can take their time, gather their thoughts, and answer in their own words by typing or speaking.

What i-consult is not

i-consult helps you prepare for a consultation. It does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment to patients, and it does not triage or assess clinical urgency. All patient-provided information is self-reported and unverified. You remain responsible for reviewing, confirming, and where necessary correcting the history before relying on it for clinical decisions.

Who it is for

i-consult is built for clinicians who already use i-scribe and whose practice runs on a supported EMR. To see whether your setup qualifies, read Who can use i-consult? (eligibility & prerequisites).
