Who can use i-consult?
i-consult eligibility: an active i-scribe account, i-consult access enabled, and an admin invitation. A supported EMR integration is optional, not required.
i-consult is an add-on to i-scribe, so eligibility comes down to three things. If all three are true for you, you can use i-consult.
The three requirements
- You are an active i-scribe user.
- i-consult access is enabled on your account.
- You have been invited to i-consult by an Akuru admin.
1. You are an active i-scribe user
i-consult is designed to work with i-scribe, not on its own. The structured history i-consult produces flows directly into your i-scribe transcript box, and i-consult relies on i-scribe for your user profile and secretary associations. An active i-scribe account is therefore the foundation. Without it, there is nowhere for the history to land.
2. i-consult access is enabled on your account
i-consult is an add-on module on top of your i-scribe subscription. Access is enabled on your account by the Akuru team as part of onboarding. It is not switched on automatically just because you use i-scribe.
3. You have been invited by an Akuru admin
Once access is enabled, the Akuru team sends you an email invitation to set up your i-consult profile. You are not eligible until that invitation exists on your account, even if access has been enabled.
Not sure whether access has been enabled, or waiting on an invitation? See Accepting your invitation & setting up your profile. It covers where the invite comes from and what to do if you can't find it.
A supported EMR integration is optional
You do not need a supported EMR to use i-consult. Connecting one adds two things:
- Appointment sync, so upcoming appointments create i-consult episodes automatically instead of you creating them by hand.
- Export back to your EMR, so the generated history can be sent into your patient record.
The supported EMRs are:
- Genie
- Gentu
- Xestro (connected via the Akuru Chrome browser extension)
Genie and Gentu integrate directly. Xestro is a web-based EMR, so it connects through the Akuru browser extension, which reads your upcoming appointments and syncs them into i-consult. See Sync your appointments from your EMR for how that works on the i-consult side.
Without one of these connected, you create each patient episode manually (see Create a patient episode manually), and the generated history still lands in your i-scribe transcript box as usual. What you lose is the automatic appointment sync and the export back into an EMR record.
Frequently asked
Do I need to use the i-consult dashboard to be eligible?
No. The dashboard is optional, and most clinicians never open it; the history appears in i-scribe automatically. Eligibility is about your i-scribe account, access being enabled, and an invitation, not about using the dashboard.
Do I need a supported EMR to use i-consult?
No. A supported EMR integration (Genie, Gentu, or Xestro) is optional. It adds appointment sync and export back to your EMR. Without one, you create episodes manually and the generated history still flows into i-scribe.
My practice uses a different EMR. Can I still use i-consult?
Yes. A supported EMR is not required. If your practice doesn't use Genie, Gentu, or Xestro, you can still use i-consult by creating episodes manually; the history still lands in your i-scribe transcript box.
