Can i-scribe send medical notes into the Gentu clinical notes section?

Gentu medical notes arrive as correspondence, not as consult notes. This is a Gentu API limitation. There is a workaround below.

The short answer

No. i-scribe can send your medical notes into Gentu, but they arrive as correspondence (a PDF document under Results/Letters), not into the Consult Notes section of the patient record.

This is a limitation on the Gentu side, not an i-scribe one. Gentu's API does not expose the Consult Notes section to third parties, so every clinical scribe faces the same restriction.

If you would like this to change, please let Magentus know. Gentu is a Magentus product, and the decision to open up this part of the API sits with them. The more clinics that ask, the better.

What does get sent

Your medical notes and letters are sent to Gentu as documents. Once sent, you will find them in:

1

Click Results/Letters in the Gentu sidebar.

2

Select Outgoing Correspondence in the top tab.

3

Look in the Draft column.

Moving a note into Consult Notes

There is a manual reclassification option in Gentu, but it only partly solves the problem. Read the caveat below before you rely on it.

1

In Gentu, find the imported document in the patient record.

2

Click the three dots to the right of the document.

3

Select Consult Note.

The document will move into the Consult Notes section.

This does not fully reclassify the record. The document remains addressed to the doctor or patient, and Gentu still treats it as correspondence, so it stays in your outgoing correspondence awaiting sending. For most practices this makes it an incomplete fix rather than a solution.

Cleaner alternatives

If you need the content to sit in Consult Notes as a genuine consult note, two options work today:

  • Copy and paste. Copy the note text (from i-scribe, or from the imported document in Gentu) into a new Consult Note, then delete the original imported letter. This is the only method that produces a clean consult note with nothing left in the correspondence queue. It suits practices with admin support.
  • Send to a blank template. Set up an empty letter template in Gentu and send the medical note into that instead of your standard letter template. The note still lives under correspondence, but it is not formatted or addressed as a letter to a referrer.

FAQs

Will this be fixed?

Not from the i-scribe side alone. We need Magentus to open up the relevant part of the Gentu API. We have raised it with them and will update this article if that changes.

Does the same limitation apply to Genie?

No. The Genie integration can send consultation notes and letters back into Genie. See the Genie integration articles for setup.

Can my admin team do the reclassification?

Yes, the three dots step can be done by anyone with access to the patient record in Gentu. Given the caveat above, most practices find the copy and paste method more reliable.
